Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are much smaller than a syringe shot needle. Its elicited sensations are much lighter than what you would get from a flu shot. You will certainly feel a minor prick when the needles are initially inserted and certain sensations will be expected afterwards. Most patients who are afraid of needles all report having a completely difference experience than expected. Dr. Liu will go through the detail and the expectation with each patient.

are there any side effects?

There is almost no severe side effects to acupuncture and other modalities we offer. However, you may experience bruising and muscle soreness after acupuncture, cupping and massage that will subside after a couple of days. Patient with low blood sugar or is prone to motion sickness may also feel a little lightheaded after the treatment but it can be avoided by having something to eat before appointment.

hOW LONG IS EACH TREATMENT?

For your first visit, expect to be here for 90 minutes, which includes initial consultation and treatment. All follow-up treatments will be around 45-60 minutes.

how should I dress?

You may dress however you'd like but loose clothing will certainly be more comfortable. Depending on your condition, you may also be asked to change into fresh gowns for better access to the area of concern.

do you take insurance?

Yes, we are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care and Aetna. However, coverage of acupuncture depends on the specific plan you have enrolled in.

What do i need to do before my appointment?

Emails with links to the necessary forms will be sent to you prior to the appointment, please fill them out before coming to the clinic. You may also choose to come to the office 15 minutes early to fill out the forms.

Please make sure to not come to appointment on an empty stomach.
